Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist and presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
